As if Flyspec's sourcing of good quality emergency equipment wasn't enough, there are other amazing wonders happening at Chitambo.
Firstly, Dr Sydney Chabala, Medical Officer in Charge, connected Friends of Chitambo (FoCH) with Dr Leah Seaman, who is an English-born Paediatrician with 10 years experience of medical work in Central Province, Zambia. Leah has established a state of the art Neonatal Unit at Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital and has provided extensive advice to Chitambo and FoCH,on equipping the Chitambo maternity unit, including the pre-term ward. This is with money sourced by FoCH's Dutch Board member, Dr Annet Dekker Annet was a doctor at Chitambo in the and raised the money through her contacts at a Dutch City Council.
In addition, Dr Chabala has established contact with Zambian-born Padre John Mbayo, who is a Chaplain in the Royal Air Force in England. Padre John has long been volunteering in charity work in Zambia, mainly through an NGO called Eye Care Zambia.
His friend, Mr Paul Musuwa, District Commissioner for the neighbouring District to Chitambo...Serenje.... introduced Padre John to Chitambo Hospital, highlighted its real development needs and facilitated Padre John's involvement in addressing these.
Since then, Padre John has worked tirelessly to raise funds to renovate parts of the hospital...the paediatric ward and, hopefully, the water system. He has commissioned engineers at the local military base..Mupepetwe ..to carry out the renovation of the paediatric ward and has also sent a complete container packed full of useful equipment for the hospital (pictured). This has now arrived and will be opened next week when Padre John and family visit Chitambo in person and preside over the opening. The container itself will provide additional storage for the Pharmacy department.
Isn't this all AMAZING?! To say that Chitambo is blessed with good friends is a total understatement
With these various powerful partners on board, we have the.potential to form a Consortium group to assist with taking forward.Chitambo's stated development needs.
