Hats off to Team Zambia!

14th May 2021

Hats off to members of our FoCH-Zambia Board, Mrs Ida Waddell, Mr Levi Chifwaila, and Mr Francis Zombe, who led an important multi-purpose meeting at Chitambo Hospital last Sunday (9th May).

It was a very intensive day with a big agenda:

  • Friends of Chitambo S.C.I.O

Facilitating plans for installation of an oxygen generating plant, including checking on existing oxygen piping and assessing scope for housing the plant in existing hospital premises

  • Friends of Chitambo S.C.I.O

Assessing progress with our funding application for a Mothers Waiting Shelter for Chitambo Hospital

  • Friends of Chitambo S.C.I.O

Presenting a donation of neonatal emergency care equipment (blood pressure monitors and resuscitaires), from a small project underspend

  • Friends of Chitambo S.C.I.O

Meeting our 4 new Scholarship student nurses and presenting them with necessary requirements

  • Friends of Chitambo S.C.I.O

Agreeing ways forward on our ambulance maintenance support plan

Ida was up at 3am and in Kabwe by 5, to meet Levi. They were soon on the road again to Chitambo, stopping briefly at Mkushi to drop Ida's young foster daughter at school. They then proceeded to Serenje to collect some items for our students and pick up Mr Isaac Katonga, District Works Supervisor, who was equally giving up his Sunday to help with the above building assessments.

It was a very busy but fruitful day, with all aspects of the agenda addressed. Ida and Levi travelled back to Kabwe, arriving after 9 pm, very tired but satisfied with all the progress they had made. Ida hardly remembers falling into bed and asleep at Tuskers lodge! She drove the extra 200 miles home to Lusaka on Monday morning and was very glad of a cup of tea on arrival.

Huge thanks to our impressive team, and their Chitambo District hosts, for such a productive day, which will really help pave the way for our forthcoming activities. Mwabombeni bonse mukwai!
