Collecting Maternity Unit Equipment
7th Aug 2025

And yet more! There's just so much going on at Chitambo just now.
A vehicle is headed to Chitambo to collect pharmacy supplies. At the same time, they hope to collect some of the equipment and supplies that we have bought for the Maternity Unit.
These include bed screens and diagnostic equipment but also some of the larger items air freighted from UK, by FlySpec doctors Alberto Gregori and Trish O'Connor: 2 phototherapy units and a suction machine. These are in storage at the Italian Orthopaedic Hospital in Lusaka and the Chitambo team are liaising with Dr Goran (pictured) who also volunteers with FlySpec.
The Maternity Unit Renovations (MUR) project is the brainchild of Dutch doctor, Annet Dekker, who worked at Chitambo in the late 1980s. She won money from a Dutch City Council, to fund the project, which was proposed by the Chitambo Hospital Team. Dr Sydney Chabala Chairs the project group.
