All go for FoCH 2021

17th Jan 2021

If we have been quiet it's because we're heads down and extremy busy on various projects including selecting a new round of underprivileged student nurses, at Chitambo College of Nursing, for FoCH training scholarships. Thank you to the selection panel for their help in deciding the shortlist.

We have also submitted a large grant application for a health services twinning partnership between Chitambo Disteict, Central Province, Zambia and NHS Lanarkshire, Scotland. This is through the THET UK Partnership for Health Systems scheme: https://www.thet.org/ukphs/ukphs-large-grants-wave-1/ If it succeeds, it will bring vital training and infrastructure support to Chitambo, for transformation of maternity services. These 2 health services share a common history relating to Scottish missionary/explore Dr. David Livingstone who was born in Lanarkshire and died in Chitambo District. Both areas are currently battling the Covid-19 pandemic. NHS Lanarkshire is one of the worst afflicted areas in Scotland and Zambia is experiencing an upsurge in cases of the new southern African variant. All strength and courage to those on the healthcare frontlines in both global regions. We are so proud of you and thankful for your dedication.

Another activity we are planning, through our Scottish Government Small Grant project, is second round of In hospital Trauma and First Aid Training at Chitambo (March). This is led by Boston-based Emergency Care Specialist, Dr Morgan Broccoli. Her first training round (2019) was very well received at Chitambo and we expect the same again.

It's all go for FoCH, pandemic or no!
