Friends of Chitambo is thrilled to announce that building of the Mothers' Waiting Shelter project starts on Monday 3rd June 2024, with a Site Handover meeting at 10 am, in the Board Room at Chitambo Hospital.
This has taken time but Zambia has strict tendering processes and we had to learn the ropes. We are indebted to Mrs Nina Cardoso, Procurement Officer, Zambian Ministry of Health, for skillfully and professionally guiding us through. She was introduced to us by Mr Levi Chifwaila, Chair of our Zambian Board. What a find she was and it is thanks to her and Levi that we were able to identify MKP Contractors Limited and award them the contract.
They are Lusaka based but have done excellent work in Chinsali District, north of Chitambo, including building health facilities and a smart new lodge (pictured).
As part of our due diligence, members of the Chitambo team travelled to Chinsali to assess the quality of MKP Contractors' work. They were satisfied and contracts were exchanged. Dr Marion Taylor, Project Chair, and Mr Lazarus Ngalandi, Lawyer, finalised the contract, which has now been signed by all relevant parties.
