Musical support for Chitambo
29th May 2023
Heartfelt thanks to the Jordanhill Parish Church, Glasgow, Scotland, for their stunning fundraising event in aid of a Mothers Waiting Shelter (MWS) for Chitambo Hospital, Central Province, Zambia. Please see the attached flyer.
The church has longstanding historic links with Chitambo through Scottish Medical Missionary Dr Hamilton Currie who was Medical Officer there until 1974.
Dr Currie dedicated his life to his medical work at Chitambo and died there, in harnass at the hospital. He is buried there and the local community kindly tends his grave (pictured).
Dr Currie greatly valued the connection with Jordanhill Parish Church. When on leave in Scotland, he spoke to the congregation about his medical work in Zambia and received much support from the congregation.
Congregation member Mr Ian Anderson has revived this link and facilitated the attached concert in support of FoCH's fundraising drive for the MWS.
The concert, on 18th May 2023, featured the Jordanhill Community Choir and Handbell Ringers (pictured). It was a great success and proceeds (a substantial donation of £275) was made to FoCH for the MWS project.
Profound thanks to all concerned. You are making a real difference where it matters most.
